We present a simulation-based study of the proposed IEEE 802.11e draft standard. The draft standard provides two new coordination functions which we implement using the Berkeley NS Network Simulator. These coordination functions provide some Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees over wireless LAN networks. We show that both the proposed functions, EDCF and HCF, reduce channel contention and allow better channel utilization while maintaining low jitter and latency for high priority QoS streams.
